Abstract: Integration of renewable energy resources in rural communities is the basis to improve life quality due to two important factors: the first one is the necessity of energy, considering the difficulty to be connected to the national grid due to high installation costs and low electricity demand by potential consumers; the second factor is that preliminary studies have showed that it is possible to make use of about 1.052 kWh/m2/year in these places. Some windmills have been made with local technology design, construction and installation based on the knowledge, skills and material available to local communities, but now it seems necessary to make a first step to integrate modern equipment suited to local needs. Wind energy at the north desert coast rural areas in Peru is capable to develop sustainable projects based on wind energy systems, in order to revitalize rural communities, and help to feed the regional energy needs.
