The development of metabolic syndrome (MS) is related to the presence of unhealthy lifestyles, which are increasingly common from younger ages. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge about MS and lifestyles among students at a private university in Chiclayo, 2024. Materials and methods: A descriptive, observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted. The CEVJU-R questionnaire and the "Level of Knowledge about Metabolic Syndrome" questionnaire were administered to 371 university students. Descriptive analyses were performed using frequencies, and the chi-square test (p < 0.05) was used for bivariate analysis. Results: The level of knowledge about MS was fair (41.0%), good (25.6%), poor (22.1%), and excellent (11.3%). The most frequent unhealthy lifestyle was lack of physical activity (50.7%). A statistically significant association was found between physical activity, alcohol, cigarette, and drug use, and coping mechanisms with the level of knowledge about MS (p < 0.05). The prevalence of cardiometabolic risk factors was overweight (31.3%), central obesity (14.0%), obesity (6.2%), and high blood pressure (4.0%). Conclusions: A moderate level of knowledge about metabolic syndrome predominated, and unhealthy lifestyle habits were identified, primarily related to physical activity, emotional state, and sleep. A significant association was found between the level of knowledge about metabolic syndrome and lifestyle habits such as physical activity, alcohol, cigarette, and drug use, and coping mechanisms. Metabolic risk factors were more frequent in males.
