Síndrome metabólico en pacientes diagnosticados con esquizofrenia en un centro de salud mental comunitario, 2023

Abstract

INTRODUCCIÓN: Los pacientes con esquizofrenia enfrentan un mayor riesgo de síndrome metabólico (SM), con implicaciones graves para la salud y calidad de vida. El objetivo fue describir el SM en pacientes de Esquizofrenia del Centro de Salud Mental Comunitaria - Chiclayo, 2023. METODOLOGÍA: Estudio observacional descriptivo de corte transversal. Población 57 pacientes; con una pérdida del 10,5%. Los datos se analizaron con Microsoft Excel 2019 e IBM SPSS v.25. RESULTADOS: La prevalencia de SM fue 11,8%, y los parámetros metabólicos que tuvieron significación estadística fueron glucosa en ayunas,triglicéridos séricos y colesterol HDL; sin asociación significativa entre la presencia de síndrome metabólico y el tipo de esquizofrenia. CONCLUSIÓN: La mayoría de los pacientes eran hombres, solteros y desempleados, con predominio del subtipo paranoide de esquizofrenia; aunque la prevalencia del síndrome metabólico era baja, se identificaron alteraciones significativas en glucosa, triglicéridos y colesterol HDL, sin relación aparente con el tipo de esquizofrenia.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with schizophrenia face an increased risk of metabolic syndrome (MS), with serious implications for health and quality of life. The objective was to describe MS in Schizophrenia patients at the Community Mental Health Center - Chiclayo, 2023. METHODOLOGY: Descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study. Population 57 patients; with a loss of 10.5%. The data were analyzed with Microsoft Excel 2019 and IBM SPSS v.25. RESULTS: The prevalence of MS was 11.8%, and the metabolic parameters that had statistical significance were fasting glucose, serum triglycerides and HDL cholesterol; there was no significant association between the presence of metabolic syndrome and the type of schizophrenia. CONCLUSION: Most patients were male, single and unemployed, with a predominance of the paranoid subtype of schizophrenia; although the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was low, significant alterations in glucose, triglycerides and HDL cholesterol were identified, with no apparent relationship to the type of schizophrenia.
