Arterial hypertension is a highly prevalent chronic disease that primarily affects older adults, who must practice self-care practices to control the disease. This self-care practice is sometimes influenced by different cultural practices specific to the beliefs and traditions of the population. This research aimed to describe and analyze cultural self-care practices for controlling high blood pressure in older adults at a health center in Reque, 2025. The study was conducted using a qualitative and descriptive methodological approach. The population consisted of 200 older adults, taking into account the selection criteria. The sample of 13 participants was determined by saturation and redundancy criteria; the sampling was nonprobabilistic and convenient. Data collection was conducted through interviews, using a semistructured interview guide validated by expert judgment. Content analysis was performed, and the principles of scientific and ethical rigor were considered. The results were 3 categories: A) Recognizing the healing properties of home remedies, B) Faith as a source of strength against illness and C) Embracing new knowledge and beliefs. It is concluded that participants use home remedies and religious practices as a form of self-care, consolidating traditions and beliefs learned from their environment for controlling hypertension.
