Nivel de conocimiento sobre pastas dentales infantiles y flúor en padres de familia de un centro educativo, Cajamarca, Perú, 2024

Abstract

El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar el nivel de conocimiento sobre las pastas dentales infantiles y el flúor en padres de familia de un centro educativo en la ciudad de Cajamarca - Perú, 2024. El estudio fue observacional, prospectivo transversal, participaron 150 madres/padres del Jardín N° 015 Santa Teresita, quienes aceptaron participar mediante documento firmado. Se utilizó un cuestionario presencial de 12 preguntas. Se realizó una prueba piloto con 15 participantes para validar el instrumento con tres expertos y para determinar la confiabilidad del instrumento obteniendo 0.82 según el coeficiente Alfa de Cronbach. Se obtuvo que el nivel de conocimiento sobre las pastas dentales infantiles y el flúor en los padres fue regular, en un 81,3% de casos; asimismo un 13,3% presentó un conocimiento deficiente y un 5,3% tuvo un conocimiento bueno. Al analizar la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y las variables genéricas nivel de instrucción, edad, sexo del padre y edad del niño, se encontró que no existen diferencias significativas entre ellas. Se concluyó que la gran mayoría de padres tiene un nivel de conocimiento regular respecto a pastas dentales infantiles y el flúor.The objective of this study was to evaluate the level of knowledge about children's toothpaste and fluoride among parents at a school in the city of Cajamarca, Peru, 2024. The study was observational, prospective, cross-sectional, and included 150 mothers/fathers from Kindergarten No. 015 Santa Teresita, who agreed to participate by signing an informed consent form. A 12-question face-to-face questionnaire was used. A pilot test was conducted with 15 participants to validate the instrument with three experts and to determine its reliability, obtaining a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.82. It was found that the level of knowledge about children's toothpaste and fluoride among parents was fair, in 81.3% of cases; 13.3% presented deficient knowledge, and 5.3% had good knowledge. When analyzing the relationship between the level of knowledge and the generic variables of educational level, age, sex of the parent, and age of the child, no significant differences were found between them. It was concluded that the vast majority of parents have a fair level of knowledge regarding children's toothpaste and fluoride.
