The critical review entitled "Nursing Care That Contributes to Reducing the Emotional Demand of Patients in the ICU" had the main objective of identifying nursing care that contributes to reducing the emotional demand of patients in the ICU. The specific objectives are to identify the factors that predispose critically ill patients to emotional disturbances and to describe nursing interventions that reduce the emotional demands of critically ill patients. The study was conducted through secondary research using the EBE methodology, with the following clinical question ¿What nursing care practices contribute to reducing the emotional demands of patients in the intensive care unit? The information search was conducted in databases such as Google Scholar, Scielo, Sciencedirect, BVS, and Pubmed, yielding a total of 50 articles, of which 10 were selected and filtered using the Gálvez Toro guidelines for apparent validity and usefulness. The article "Stress in the critically ill patient: reality and nursing care. A systematic review" was selected, applying the CASPE guidelines, which determined a level of evidence of 2++ and a grade of recommendation of B according to the SING guidelines. Finally, in response to the clinical question, it was found that the actions developed by nursing, including assessment, the application of pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures, and environmental manipulation, ensured control, reduction, and psychophysical well-being, reducing hospital stay and post-traumatic stress disorder.
