The present review entitled “Patient safety culture: Compliance by nursing professionals in the emergency service” aimed to describe compliance with the patient safety culture by nursing professionals in the emergency service and to identify possible opportunities for improvement in the safety culture. The research was developed under a secondary research modality and an evidence-based nursing methodology. In a first stage, the clinical question “Does the nurse comply with the patient safety culture in the emergency service?” was formulated. Subsequently, key words were chosen and translated into English and Portuguese to increase the search criteria, selecting for this purpose Internet search engines such as Scielo, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library Plus and Dialnet. From a total of 85 investigations, 10 articles were finally selected, which were considered because they were no older than 5 years, were complete, and responded to the objective of the review. After applying the Gálvez Toro guide, only 06 passed the second filter, selecting the research entitled Nurses' perception of patient safety in the emergency service; which was subject to review through the Caspe checklist. In response to the clinical question, the nursing staff recognizes the importance of patient safety, but the high demand in this area prevents nurses from using effective safety measures.
