Resumen
La procrastinación y la baja calidad del sueño constituyen problemáticas frecuentes entre los estudiantes universitarios, afectando negativamente su rendimiento académico y bienestar general. Esta tendencia a postergar actividades académicas suele incrementar los niveles de estrés y reducir el tiempo destinado al descanso. Por ello, el objetivo principal del presente estudio es determinar la relación entre la procrastinación académica y la calidad de sueño de los estudiantes universitarios. Como objetivos específicos se planteó identificar diferencias en procrastinación académica y calidad de sueño según sexo y ciclo académico, y explorar la relación entre sus dimensiones. El diseño es cuantitativo, no experimental, correlacional transversal. Se encuestaron 212 estudiantes (46 hombres, 166 mujeres), con edades entre 18 a 30 años (M=20.6, DE=2.97) de ciclos II, IV, VI, VIII y X mediante muestreo intencional no probabilístico. Se usaron los instrumentos: la Escala de Procrastinación Académica (EPA) y el Índice de Calidad de Sueño de Pittsburgh (PSQI). Se incluyeron alumnos matriculados en el ciclo 2023-II que completaron el consentimiento informado. Los resultados mostraron una correlación positiva entre procrastinación académica y calidad de sueño deficiente. Los hombres presentaron mayores niveles de procrastinación académica, mientras las mujeres mostraron una calidad de sueño ligeramente inferior. Estudiantes de ciclos académicos más avanzados exhibieron niveles más altos de procrastinación académica comparados con aquellos en ciclos iniciales. Se concluyó que existe una relación entre la procrastinación académica y la
calidad de sueño de los estudiantes universitarios, indicando que la tendencia a postergar tareas
académicas está asociada con una menor calidad del sueño.
Procrastination and poor sleep quality are common problems among university students, negatively affecting their academic performance and general well-being. This tendency to procrastinate academic activities tends to increase stress levels and reduce time for rest. Therefore, the main objective of the present study was to determine the relationship between academic procrastination and sleep quality among university students. The specific objectives were to identify differences in academic procrastination and sleep quality according to sex and academic cycle, and to explore the relationship between their dimensions. The design is quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional correlational. A total of 212 students (46 males, 166 females), aged 18 to 30 years (M=20.6, SD=2.97) of cycles II, IV, VI, VIII and X were surveyed by non-probabilistic purposive sampling. The following instruments were used: the Academic Procrastination Scale (EPA) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Students enrolled in the 2023-II cycle who completed informed consent were included. Results showed a positive correlation between academic procrastination and poor sleep quality. Males presented higher levels of academic procrastination, while females showed slightly lower sleep quality. Students in more advanced academic cycles exhibited higher levels of academic procrastination compared to those in early cycles. It was concluded that there is a relationship between academic procrastination and sleep quality of college students, indicating that the tendency to procrastinate academic tasks is associated with lower sleep quality.
