Currently, much of the urban expansion in Latin American cities faces the problem of fragmentation and disintegration, along with the deterioration of natural spaces, resulting in the loss of biodiversity and the emergence of apparently unproductive residual spaces. As the city expands, the landscape undergoes transformations, leading to a rupture in the relationship between the urban fabric and the natural environment—a condition that should be avoided through mechanisms that prioritize the preservation of nature and promote an urban development that harmonizes with it, aiming for a sustainable and responsible future. Peru is not exempt from this issue. One of the cities selected for this research is Jaén, a city experiencing growth without an integrated plan that considers the natural elements of its territory. The degradation of natural areas on its periphery is evident, giving rise to residual and abandoned spaces, such as those found in Sector 18, generally perceived as unproductive for the city. The aim of this research is to contribute to the implementation of green infrastructure as a structuring element to promote comprehensive and sustainable development in the city of Jaén, starting with Sector 18. To achieve this, the study draws on the concepts of the loose stratum, third landscape, and terrain vague to classify and interpret the types of landscapes present, analyze them through the lens of landscape as territory, and define the key elements that could form part of a green infrastructure strategy.
