Informal trade is one of the fastest-growing economic activities in Peru and represents a significant challenge in the Chiclayo Model Market, due to merchants' limited tax knowledge, lack of interest in regularization, and the absence of effective formalization measures by local authorities. Therefore, the general objective of this research is to identify the determinants of informal trade in the Model Market and tax collection in the municipality of Chiclayo in 2023. The research adopted a quantitative, basic, and descriptive non-experimental approach, using a survey as the main data collection instrument, administered to 95 merchants. The results show that monthly income is the main factor determining formalization, while sociodemographic and attitudinal variables, although showing positive effects, were not statistically significant. These findings highlight the need for municipal policies that strengthen revenues, facilitate tax compliance, and promote formalization, thus contributing to increased revenue collection and business competitiveness.
