Retail markets are large-scale equipment in a city or sector, which depend on the need to market and supply basic necessities. However, when these arise spontaneously, without considering technical criteria of architectural design or urban integration, it can contribute significantly to the disorder in its immediate environment, affecting the harmonious relationship with the city. This situation manifests itself in the disorganized occupation of public space by informal traders, vehicular congestion on adjacent roads, tugurization of accesses and presence of informal stops for mototaxis, which makes it difficult to control and manage urban space. In this investigation the case of Mercado Rivera del Mar - Sta. Rosa is taken. Developing a 3-phase methodological process, taking criteria from the current infrastructure analysis, recognition of factors influencing the disorder and the effects it causes, finally, the study of reference markets and their environment in order to draw up planning strategies for solving the functional deficit and urban disorder. With the methods applied in this research work, results were obtained where it is evident the deterioration and functional deficit of equipment caused by the precarious conditions of the posts and the few complementary environments. Outside, informal trade predominates as a major influence on urban disorder. Finally, with the help of referents, project strategies are established to address the problems mentioned above.
