Objective: To compare the acceptability of the combination of fixed and removable retainer use in university students with a history of fixed orthodontic treatment. Methodology: This study included 144 participants from 3 different universities in Chiclayo. The sample was collected outside the universities through an attention module. The participants were sent a virtual questionnaire via WhatsApp, which consisted of three parts: an inventory with the student's personal data, an VAS scale about the degree of acceptability with the combination of retainers with different items and an inventory about the socioeconomic level. Results: The ratings of the four possible combinations of upper and lower retainers were presented, showing statistically significant differences in several aspects according to the VAS scale. Significant differences were found in bite comfort during retainer use (p=0.001), word vocalization (p=0.001), retainer esthetics (p=0.016), bite comfort during food chewing (p=0.001) and self-esteem in retainer use (p=0.039). No significant differences were observed between the combinations of retainer use in the other items evaluated. Conclusions: It was determined that the acceptability of the combination of a fixed retainer in the upper jaw and a fixed retainer in the lower jaw was the group with the most positive perceptions regarding the different evaluated items.
