Method: Qualitative-descriptive study, whose objective was: To describe nursing care for the initiation of breastfeeding as perceived by mothers of newborns in primary care, Chiclayo 2025. Thirteen mothers of newborns participated, with the sample determined by the technique of data saturation and code redundancy. The information was obtained using an interview guide developed by the researcher and validated by expert judgment and pilot testing once the protocol was approved by the institutional ethics committee, then processed manually using content analysis. During the research, Sgreccia's ethical principles and those of scientific rigor were followed. Results: Three categories emerged: nursing care for the establishment of breastfeeding in the delivery room, nursing care for the establishment of breastfeeding in the postpartum room, and qualities of the nurse to ensure the establishment of breastfeeding. Conclusion: Primary care nurses promote breastfeeding in the delivery room by applying the CPP for periods of 15 to 30 minutes; support, guidance, and counseling on breastfeeding in the postpartum ward in cases where breastfeeding cannot be established immediately after the newborn is born, evidencing noncompliance with current regulations and a lack of commitment to the promotion, support, and defense of breastfeeding as the ideal food for the newborn from the first hour of life.
