The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of incorporating volcanic ash in the stabilization of expansive clays, with a view to their use as subgrade in the district of La Victoria, Chiclayo. An experimental approach was adopted by creating mixtures containing different proportions of volcanic ash. The most favorable results were achieved with a mixture composed of 70% natural soil and 30% volcanic ash, which allowed achieving CBR (California Bearing Ratio) values between 19.27% and 24.34%, and a reduction of the expansion percentage to a range of 1.60% to 1.72%, which are below the regulatory limit of 3%. These results demonstrate that 30% volcanic ash is the optimum amount to significantly improve the physical and mechanical properties of the soil, allowing its adequate use as a subgrade in road infrastructure.
