This research analyzes the labor characteristics of the elderly population in Peru during the years 2018 and 2023, within a context in which population aging represents an increasing challenge for social security and public policies; therefore, the general objective was to determine the main labor characteristics of people aged 60 and over. The methodology corresponds to a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, based on the analysis of statistical tables constructed from the National Household Survey (ENAHO), with a sample of 9,032 people in 2018 and 7,924 people in 2023. The results show a high permanence of older adults in the Economically Active Population, with a predominance of independent and informal employment, concentrated in the lowest income levels and with limited pension coverage. Likewise, gender inequalities are evident, since women show lower participation and greater difficulties in accessing paid employment, along with educational and territorial gapsthat affect rural areas more severely. It is concluded that the labor characteristics of this age group reflect structural vulnerability conditions, where continued participation in the labor market is not a free choice but a necessity to secure minimum income for subsistence.
