The objective of this research was to determine the symptoms of body dysmorphia in young adults attending a gym in the city of Chiclayo, considering both the sex and age of the participants. The research was descriptive, with a quantitative approach and a nonexperimental, cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 105 participants aged 18 to 35, selected by convenience sampling. Data collection was carried out using the Spanish version of the Adonis Complex Questionnaire, an instrument used to determine the causes of body dysmorphia through perceptual and behavioral indicators. The vast majority of the young adults evaluated showed a mild level of dysmorphia, demonstrating that concerns about appearance did not severely impact their daily lives, although they could potentially lead to negative concerns regarding self-esteem and physical self-perception. Regarding sex, while mild dysmorphia was the most frequent level in both groups, a higher proportion of cases were recorded in the moderate and severe levels among males. With respect to age, the highest prevalence was observed in the 21-25 age group, an age associated with high levels of social pressure and greater exposure to aesthetics. It is concluded that among the evaluated population, there are initial signs of body dysmorphia that necessitate preventive action, especially in young adults in situations where appearance has considerable social value.
