Qualitative, descriptive research, whose objective was: To describe the barriers to the practice of exclusive breastfeeding in mothers from the town center of Íllimo 2024, in a sample of 16 of 40 mothers of children under six months of age from the town center of Íllimo, determined due to data saturation and redundancy, with non-probabilistic sampling, for convenience. The data were collected through the conversational technique, and as an instrument a semi-structured interview guide was used, prepared by the researcher and validated by expert judgment and by pilot once the project was approved by the institutional ethics committee and then processed through the analysis. of content. During the course of the research, the ethical principles proposed by Sgreccia were taken into account. As results, three categories emerged that reflect the barriers that limit the practice of breastfeeding, these being: maternal barriers, those related to the infant and interpersonal barriers, and a category that reflects the role of the nursing professional in the face of these barriers. Arriving at the final consideration that maternal barriers are those that mostly limit the practice of BF, influenced by the family and sometimes by health personnel, it being essential that the health team assess these barriers and address them individually through personalized and preferably demonstrative counseling, which includes the family, as this is the one that positively or negatively influences the practice of breastfeeding.
