The objective of this study was to determine the association between dental caries and academic performance in preschool children at a school in Lambayeque in 2025. The study was quantitative, observational, cross-sectional, descriptive, and prospective, with a relational research approach. The sample consisted of 162 children aged 3 to 5 years. Dental caries was assessed through clinical examination using the dmft and pufa indices. Academic performance was obtained from the school's records for the last two months of the year. A pilot test was conducted, yielding a Cohen's Kappa value of 0.899 during the inter-examiner phase and 0.798 during the intraexaminer phase, reflecting high levels of agreement. Statistical significance was found for both the dmft and pufa indices, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The mean dmft index was 5.49, while the mean dmft index was 0.95. Regarding academic performance by age, category A predominated in the psychomotor area (31.4%), followed by the personal- social area (29%), both within the five-year-old age group. Regarding academic performance by sex, category A was also predominant in the psychomotor area (38%) among males. It was concluded that there is a statistically significant association between dental caries and academic performance in the preschool children in the study.
