This research exposes the loss and degradation of Peru’s protected natural areas caused by neglect and the carrying out of illegal activities inside of them, and takes as a case of study the Bosques Nublados de Udima Wildlife Refuge, a forest located between Lambayeque and Cajamarca whose historical and natural value is highly unknown. To demonstrate the vital performance of these areas, specific analyses were carried out to gather the characteristics of the landscape for a better perception of its functioning, and an action plan was formulated for each identified conflict. Through the use of landscape ecology concepts, shaped interventions are proposed to the Refuge to restore, connect, and protect the local ecosystems, integrating both native flora and fauna as well as traditional cultural practices. Through a sensitive and systemic approach, this work seeks to revalorize the cultural landscape present in the forest to enhance its natural and cultural value, by projecting it as a symbiotic and living landscape that is already a home to many endemic species and has much to offer to different forms of living.
