The present research aimed to evaluate the perception of smile attractiveness among students aged 18 to 26 from the School of Dentistry at a Private University. The focus of this study was qualitative, with an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, and prospective design; the population consisted of 400 students, and the sample to be worked with was made up of 183 individuals obtained through the application of a pilot test calculation. The instrument consisted of evaluating and grading a photograph which underwent a total of 6 modifications carried out by an expert in computer-aided design; the students, using an analog visual scale system, employed to grade smiles based on their aesthetic value, rated according to the following scale: 1: great aesthetics, 2: good aesthetics, 3: satisfactory aesthetics, 4: unacceptable aesthetics, 5: totally unacceptable aesthetics. Then it was recorded in the database obtained from the spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel® version 2013 to be processed, applying inferential statistics. To determine the statistical tests to be used, the normality test was applied, where for all cases the value was 0.00, demonstrating that it belongs to a non-parametric statistic. For this reason, the hypotheses were contrasted with the Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests.
